Of course Neuschwanstein is all cement and rebar, rather than stone, built only a few decades prior to Hearst's San Simeon castle in California.

For that matter, most of the castles in Germany are Victorian recreations funded by romantic English aristocrats. The originals were virtually all destroyed by the French by the 1600s.

The German government will be finished rehabilitating Sans Souci in Potsdam by 2017, after the East German government left it untended since the end of WW-II. Dresden's center too was left rubble by the DDR and rebuilt after reunification.

Now, even the Russian city of Kaliningrad (formerly east Prussian Königsberg) has a competition to rebuild the center of Königsberg Altstadt bombed flat by the Allies, in the original Prussian style.
