Each large energy firm does continually look at what the energy market will be like ten, twenty and thirty years from now, especially since most projects built today last that long.

And the results are far more diverse today than they were in the 1970s and 1980s where the major oil companies exhibited an unfortunate tendency toward group-think.

Regardless of what the real future holds, at least some of the firms today will have the technology ready - which is what the magic of competition should be.

Virtually all of the world's government are all funding ITER the experimental fusion plants in Cadarache, Southern France - including governments who don't speak to each other. They're fixing the problems bit by bit.
