Sig. You've essentially nailed it. $1000 PC's have always
been with us. Now, it's a huge marketing message and leading
vendors are bundling these entry level turn-key solutions.

Another point worth mentioning is the configuration game.
This is how richer configurations are pushed. Just visit
any vendor's website and try to configure a sub $1000.
If they would offer 16MB EDO or 2G drives in combo with pentium
166MHZ (plus a few other trade down options), you'd be able
to configure an sub-zero PC easy.

That's why Dell knows it can be in this game in a minute
if need be. It's just a re-bundling effort and marketing
message.
