Americans in THESE states may need passports to fly from state to state

[ Personally I think we should treat NYers and Californicators as security risks. ]

American citizens living in certain states may now need a passport to travel by airplane domestically.

Drivers’ licenses from residents of New York, New Hampshire, Minnesota and Louisiana will no longer be enough to board an aircraft in 2016, due to regulations from the 2004 Real ID Act, according to Time Magazine.

The REAL ID Act was passed in the aftermath of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 to provide additional security and to ensure the identity of anyone boarding an aircraft could be easily determined.

[ Isn't that racist? ]

The four states mentioned do not have enough security features on their respective standard state drivers’ licenses to be considered compliant, but the more expensive enhanced licenses are acceptable.

Although a date for the change has not been officially announced, the new regulation will mean travelers may have no choice but to obtain a passport, according to the Department of Homeland Security’s website.

Individuals without licenses from compliant jurisdictions may present alternative forms of identification – such as a U.S. Passport – accepted by the agency. Some agencies may have additional processes to accommodate individuals lacking the prescribed identification documents.
