That's going to be a hard call, sooner or later. Whether it is 500K or 1M or 5M, eventually it will have to be dealt with.

But I think it is always important to consider the ancillary benefit that eventually, the drug will be off-patent and can be manufactured cheaply, and in addition, these guys are at least putting significant profits back into the pipeline. The example from a week or two ago, there was no indication at all other than the guy's word that that was going to happen.

It does seem to me when you tell the ratepayers that you're going to remove the limitations on benefits for commercial insurance you do open the door.

As a practical matter, if I have to have that drug I'm going to find a commercial payer who will pay it and I'm changing my policy to them, because that is the social contract. I can't be denied coverage. I imagine there are a lot of these battles yet to be played out.
