Surely, he understands...

Surely you meant that tongue and cheek... <g>

In this medium it's hard to tell what's behind what is posted. Most issues are a matter of opinion but some things are so obvious that it is befuddling when posters apparently don't get them. You can't tell if they are under the thrall of some bias or cognitive disfunction like cognitive dissonance or capture or wishful thinking or whatever. Or if they are just that stupid. If someone shows a recognition of the point and offers a coherent argument even if it's not a good one, I rule out stupid. When there is no rationale for the position offered, it could be either.

Kind of reminds of animals which eat their young

You're making a value judgment there. Some might not have a problem with eating one's young, a more live-for-today attitude. That's not the same thing as not understanding. You or I might not agree with that attitude but folks are entitled to their own values. To not care about the impact on future generations is different from denial of that outcome. Or gullibility wrt to the converse. Or some sort of cognitive blip.

BTW, today I ran into an interesting piece on denial, the idea and the terminology. It differentiates among denial, skepticism, and doubt in the context of global warming, evolution, etc. You might find it interesting.
