Company Press Release

eBay Partners with Leading Internet Companies

All Roads Lead to eBay as Company Expands Web Directory Presence

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 22, 1997--eBay(TM), the leading person-to-person online auction site at www.ebay.com, announced today a series of strategic partnerships to make it easier for both seasoned online traders and new-to-the-Internet online shoppers to find their way to their virtual home.

eBay's Web site will now be prominently featured on some of the Web's most heavily trafficked sites. eBay will be featured as a distinguished provider on Netscape Communications Corporation [Nasdaq:NSCP - news]'s Net Search page; on Excite's Shopping Channel's Classifieds (NASDAQ:XCIT - news); on the Netscape Guide by Yahoo! (netscape.yahoo.com) and on the Visa Shopping Guide by Yahoo! (shopguide.yahoo.com).

''eBay is already one of the most popular shopping sites on the Internet, with more than 20,000 auctions completed each day,'' said Pierre Omidyar, CEO and founder of eBay. ''Now, eBay is even easier to find on the Web, often only a mouse click away. Our goal is to make eBay as easy to find as possible for people seeking a real online community of traders.''

eBay will now be listed on the Netscape Net Search page under the ''Specialized Searches'' heading. Netscape users need only click on the ''Search'' button on the browser's toolbar to be on their way towards bidding on that hard-to-find piece of sports memorabilia, toy, jewelry or other item in 371 categories.

''As a distinguished search provider on the Netscape Net Search page, eBay will be able to provide users with a direct gateway to the leading person-to-person online auction site,'' said Jerrell Jimerson, director of online content services at Netscape. ''eBay will help Internet users spend their time online more efficiently by offering quick access to useful information and resources.''

eBay will also be featured on Excite as a tenant in the Classifieds of the Shopping channel at www.excite.com/channel/shopping/classifieds/, with an eBay graphic included on the ''Shop Here First'' location. In addition, eBay will also be included in the Excite Shopping Channel ''Such A Deal'' rotation. eBay graphics will be featured in both locations for easy identification.

eBay has also signed an agreement with Yahoo! (NASDAQ:YHOO - news) to be featured prominently on the Netscape Guide by Yahoo!, with eBay listed as a featured site in the Classifieds area of the Shopping section, at netscape.yahoo.com/guide/shopping/classifieds.html . eBay's top five auctions of the day will be listed in a Featured Auctions promotional spot on the site. eBay will also be included as one of four charter advertisers on the Visa Shopping Guide by Yahoo!, at shopguide.yahoo.com .

According to the most recently released audience ratings report from Media Metrix, the leading Web audience measurement company, eBay is among the top 10 most-visited online shopping sites on the Web.

eBay's Web site hosts on average more than 150,000 auctions a day in 371 categories, including computers, consumer electronics, software, collectibles, antiques, memorabilia, trading cards, toys, dolls, coins, stamps, books and magazines, and jewelry and gemstones. More than 25,000 new items are added daily. More than 3 million items have been sold on eBay since inception.
