I have always liked the Book of Proverbs for its wisdom, and there is lots of good advice throughout the testaments. I don't worship Jesus and no one has to in order to appreciate the excellent guidance offered there. Religious bigotry is just as ugly as every other kind. tsk

So, I guess you'd like to burn the Brothers Grimm stuff too.....?

You're not going to get any precise documentation from ancient writings but that doesn't mean we don't learn a great deal from them.

>> If you like fairy tales.......

I know very little about religion as it doesn't hold great interest for me.

But serious historians consider The Bible to an important contributor to history. While the accounts may be imperfect, they are nevertheless important because they are the ONLY accounts from which certain knowledge may be gained.

More recently, The Bible has had greater readership than any text in existence, ever. For that reason if no other, one has to regard the work as important and substantial. There is no doubt at all that there are significant historical accounts to be found in it.

If, of course, history means nothing to you, there is no reason for an atheist to care about it. I look forward to the day when I have the time to properly study it in the context of its historical significance. I've really never had the time or energy to do it, but it is something I'd like to do one day.

It is not a Tolkien novel. It is not a fairy tale. That it isn't 100% reality doesn't mean it has zero historical context.

I'd say the bible has some beautiful passages surrounded by a lot of barely readable garbage.
