Sandy, I found this article that might explain why the pop in BOCI today.

Boca Raton, Fla. - Boca Research will join a handful of modem companies offering dual-analog modems in December, when it ships two products in the category.

Boca plans to ship a dual-analog modem for about $300 and a software package to connect two modems, thereby doubling the speed, for an as-yet undetermined price.

The company is using technology from Ramp Networks and MidCore Software for the releases. Both technologies use a method of retrieving information piecemeal and dividing it between the two phone lines.

The software package will be a Boca-branded version of MidCore's MidPoint software, which MidCore sells via its Web site (www.midcore.com)

Although such technology had been limited to the speed of the fastest phone line for file transfers, Chris Buffum, Boca's vice president of OEM and retail sales, said Boca's device can split a file the same way it splits a Web page.

Customers who wish to connect at speeds of up to 112K-bps using the products must have two Internet service provider (ISP) accounts. A Boca spokeswoman said the company is working with some ISPs to provide a special rate for the service. She declined to name any of the ISPs.

Boca is one of several companies to announce dual-analog technology this year. In April, Ramp released M3, a router that pools up to three phone lines. 3Com this month introduced a $749 router using Multilink PPP. Diamond Multimedia also announced dual-analog technology this month.

Boca plans to introduce a set-top box based on technology from Acorn Computer, as well. The set-top will be positioned to vertical markets, such as education and corporate sales, Buffum said.

The company also plans to release another set-top in January, based on Coologic's technology, for the same markets.
