I don't know that they are much cleaner on a lifespan basis.

Wind and solar both involve mining toxic metals and shipping them around the world. Both have reclamation issues both at the minesites and when the products are junked. I understand EV's have to drive about 80K miles before they make up the energy produced in making them.
