Try telling that to the people of New Jersey who were devastated by Sandy. These types of storms are becoming all too common.

You hit the nail on the head. Just plotting the maximum 3-day precipitation total over the last 35 years, a 1 in 1000 year event would stand out. Does it? Well, unless 1 in 1000 year events were all over the map.
