Even when the NC is taking off, which I personaly see as a great and logical next step into a networked world, I don't think that must be without any harddisk.

NC + harddisk = PC - Windows

I'm not sure I see the point in getting too consumed with this issue. Before the sub-1000 PC, I was much more favorable toward the NC; particularly since PC prices had been fairly stable for a long period of time (stable meaning a 386/40 of 1991 is pricewise about the same as today's Pentium 166 or 200). But with the memory glut and drive prices dropping as they have, the NC's advantage is more limited.
