That's because you've never met a neurosurgeon.

"never met a neurosurgeon who was not an egomaniac"

I did.

Frances "Fran" Krauskopf Conley (born August 12, 1940 in Palo Alto, California) is a professor of neurosurgery at Stanford University.

Many surgeons are egomaniacs. But thus far, Carson comes across as a highly intelligent, highly reasonable individual who is moderate but not a nutjob. I have met many surgeons in many specialities who are not egomaniacs. I have known a number of cardio-thoracic surgeons and surgical oncologists who you would think would be jerks but were ordinary people who respected others.

While I don't agree with a number of his positions I am confident he has sufficient intellect to and commitment to the American way of life that he will not endanger the nation in the way that Barack Obama is doing.

Contrary to popular belief, I think Carson has a reasonable shot at becoming the next president and turning the country around from the death spiral Obama has put us in.

After working in UTMB at Galveston for 5.5 years, many doctors are egomaniacs. Surgeons in general tend to be on the high end. No doubt, the more they specialize, the higher the ratio.
