Why, that's silly.

The number of guns vs. people has nothing at all to do with how "civilized" we are as a people.

Out of the 100s of millions of guns in our country a few thousand are used in killing people each year. It isn't good, but it doesn't suggest guns are some kind of major factor that has to be dealt with.

That's crazy.

If we (as a society) were as civilized as you want, it wouldn't matter if every adult was armed. Most people are civilized enough to own guns .... no one in my family has ever shot anyone despite guns in our homes. Never fired a gun in anger. Never even picked up a gun in anger. So I'm your civilized guy.

The problem we have is the people who AREN'T civilized.
