Jules asked:

Why did Mathews sell $16M last month ?

I don't think that this transaction amounts to much more than a
meeting of some short term personal cash flow requirement. As I understand it, Mr. Mathews has built a considerable empire beyond Newbridge. As a percentage of overall holdings, my understanding is that this transaction represents about 1/2 of one percent of Mr. Mathews current stake in Newbridge.

With a present holding of 38-39 million shares, it seems like Mr. Mathews is very committed to the longterm.

For what it's worth, does anyone have a tally on total insider trades
in Newbridge for 1997 ?

Frank

In the 12/22/97 Wall Street Journal, page A12, it was indicated that Siemens won a $564 million contract "from the state telecom operator in Greece to modernize that nation's phone system." Hopefully, Newbridge will be a participant in this contract. ATM anyone?
