World: Europe Bear meat poisoning in Siberia A report from Russia says over sixty people have been taken to hospital with food poisoning after eating meat from an infected bear. The outbreak happened in the Siberian town of Zima. The Russian newsagency ITAR TASS said an un-licenced hunter shot the bear, and smoke-cured the meat at his home without first having it tested by a specialist. The agency said as many as one hundred and twenty people in Zima are believed to have eaten the meat some of which also reached the towns of Sayansk, Angarsk and Irkutsk, where isolated cases of illness were reported.
