I am looking more to the Independent crowd who actually decide the POTUS. I wonder if the term socialist would fly with them.

Notice that during the debate Hillary clearly pointed out the distinction between her and Bernie:

1. I am also a socialist but also believe strongly on the "small business" model
2. I am also a socialist but with a difference in that I get things done. (her campaign team backs up that claim)
3. I will be strong with the US adversaries (backed up how Bernie and she handled the "Black Lives matter" demonstrators)

Thursday (Congress Benghazi hearings) and Saturday (JJ dinner) will be crucial days for us. I am not against Bernis and I hope that Hillary can accommodate Bernie. His approach is surely very effective judging by how he disarmed those Liberty University religious zealots. But it is not going to be effective in his winning the Presidency because the Independents know it will not be effective against evil folks like Iran and Russia.

overcome voter inertia and lead a changing of the guard (in Congress)

That already happened. When Obama entered office, the Democrats controlled the House and the Senate. Now they don't. The guard has been changed!
