Modern plants burn coal more cleanly and screen out most of the SO2, NO2, and other non-CO2 emissions. When greens push industrial production to third world countries like China and India with much dirtier plants, they actuallyi increase the emissions of pollutants.

As for CO2, it's on balance beneficial at current levels and plays little role in warming, which btw isn't a serious threat.
