The speed with which the global markets can move these days is staggering. Likewise, what was once a bulletproof investment can now be shot full of holes in a relatively short period of time. Since the US govt no longer has the triple A rating, it's logical that US bonds no longer have the bulletproof status they once offered. Your post from 2010 also relates to the complexity of an ever changing environment, similar to the way one can't simply apply the Phillips curve any longer without adding more variables.
