Can you help me with the put options? What will it cost to protect 3000 shares at 17.50 through January? Through February? I am not too literate on options. Thanks.

Once more...my broker says with a $3.00 spread from the offer price the market (the big boys) are saying it won't go through. If there was strong sentiment to the positive the spread would be much narrower. Can one still protect himself or is it too far away from 17.50 to be buying puts? My Christmas is ruined.
