You might also be interested in an arbitrage play: SO & GAS

So has a $66.00/share cash offer to acquire GAS. Gas pays $0.51/share quarterly (xdiv 11/14). Deal may take 6-8 months to close because of regulatory approvals. GAS shareholder vote on merger is 11/19.

I calculate an 8% return in about 8 months if deal is approved and dividends paid. I own GAS in several other accounts but was going to buy a few more shares to capture the dividend and premium from cash deal.

It's like a callable preferred and or short term bond. Deal s/d be approved. Similar to Duke & PNY deal but that one has less premium cooked into it.
