The secret to education in my opinion, is to get the children started early. That takes precedent over everything else. 1 - What evidence do you have for this idea? Early studies of extremely extensive intervention on a small and selected group of students showed some lasting positive benefit (if not a huge one). More recent and much larger studies of larger number of ordinary students show the students with early schooling have an initial advantage, but that the advantage disappears in the long run with no better rend results for those who start a year or two earlier. On the average if you start formal schooling young you are well ahead at 5, maybe a bit ahead at 9, but your not ahead academically at 17, and don't have better prospects for employment at 30. 2 - Even if early schooling did create a big lasting advantage, that would not refute or make irrelevant the point raised by the study I posted about. There would still be a negative result from strong local rules giving a lot of power to teachers unions. and even the academics with PhD degrees do not homeschool their kids, they send them to preschools "And even" has it backward here. Someone with a PhD would on the average be giving up more income than those who don't. They would be less likely to home school. Also the evidence shows better academic results for home schooled kids. That's probably not a fact that will or even should drive education policy much (other then acting as an additional reason not to let education policy get in the way of homeschooling), as most kids are not going to be home-schooled, but there isn't much point in attacking homeschooling if our objective is better educated students. preschool cause much less crime and are much more productive I've read any advantages evaporate very quickly. More to the point: The appalling cost curve below began its ascent even slightly before the NEA brought us the Carter Terror and bought a new cabinet to federally interfere in what is properly a local matter. Can you discern implications in this graph that contradicts your assumptions? Can you understand that overfunding one activity reduces other potentials? Might help if you could first absorb the essence of this foundational essay.
