Yeah, the relative lack of warning coupled with a very short fuse on implementation, to me, is the worst part of this... a bit more warning or delay in implementation, would have taken the sting out of this move, and I think (though I have to supporting data or math to back this up), just delaying implementation a year wouldn't have made a huge difference in total savings realized by eliminating the file and suspend strategy, while the impact on very-near retirees (esp. those, like my wife and me, born in '53 and '54 respectively) will be about $200/mo. on ave. over the next 20 years... $200 less income a month won't be a huge problem for us, but the more I think about what $200/mo. could buy, the more significant it seems... I really did not see this coming... at least not this quickly... sigh...

I guess I'll have to increase my billable hours by 2 a month on average over the next few years to make up for it... doesn't sound like much, but I'd been planning on fully retiring maybe next year or the year after... I might decide to keep going a bit longer -- not that I'm working my ass off at about 56 hours/mo. on ave. this past year, but still...
