Probably not, but it depends what you are using them for. Playing music CD's a lot? Worth it. Using it for games/multimedia? Not worth it. They both sound fantastic.

Just my opionion. I could be wrong.

Mike,
Buy the Encore at Comp usa before 12/27 for $299 and don't tell your wife it is a great deal. Then buy a computer without CD-Rom and no sound card. I think this is the way to go, the Encore that is, the wife part I leave up to you.
