TopCat, You don't think enforcement leads to deterrence? That's not the point. There are entire immigrant communities built around family-owned businesses. A lot of these small businesses cheat because of crushing business regulations. They would NOT survive against the big corporations without cutting every corner they can think of, including labor laws. It's much easier and cheaper to just pay someone under the table than to comply with regulations. Treat these employers like criminals, and you'll end up shutting down half of the businesses in these communities. Many of the immigrants will move out, but others will contact their lawyers, politicians, etc. and fight tooth-n-nail to preserve their communities. They'll gain the sympathy of the liberal intelligentsia, and new "laws" (e.g. from activist judges or Obama's "executive orders") will be created to protect these employers from the very labor laws that were meant to be enforced in the first place. This is indeed how far down the hole we have gone, when an entire gray market economy in America is dependent on illegal immigration. At least conservatives are honest about what to do about this problem. Kick 'em all out and let them sort out the resulting mess. If that causes riots, too bad. These people need to obey the law or suffer the consequences. I don't think most people in America have the stomach for that, however. They say they want immigration law enforced, but that's very easy to say. To actually carry it out requires a great deal of resolve that I don't believe even Donald Trump possesses, given how thin-skinned that egomaniac is. Tenchusatsu
