C'mon ... cut the guy some slack.

You can't expect one person to be an expert in ALL things digital. It's a HUGE technical world out there, and it's changing every day.

The secret to success in all things is to excel in tasks you understand and where you have the talent to succeed, but seek help in those areas you don't.

Identifying those distinct areas can be a serious problem, though, because most techies are innately averse to asking for help. It's just a bunch of ones and zeros, right? So, how hard can it be?

One of the IT management challenges is to influence your highly competent techie employee into accepting somebody else's help, then make your employee think they were the hero who arrived at the solution to their problem ... so they will then dive into their next task with a renewed vigor.

It's a delicate balancing act, and can be quite frustrating when working with many different personalities, each of which see things their own way and are all motivated by different aspects of their job. It's just one of the MANY reasons IT managers are so high paid.

Fortunately, I decided to retire early while I still had a full head of hair.

[... pause ...]

It would be out of character for me to close a post without mentioning that ridiculously useless TIME format ...

And, in the unlikely case you have forgotten ...

CENSORSHIP SUX !!!

Sure is a pretty day.
