Isn't my rejection of the spirit world getting the facts wrong...? I can't say for sure, since I don't have direct knowledge of how unseen forces are manifest. We know that scriptural warnings about moral failings tend to ring true, according to historical accounts of deceit, corruption, and such; and that living according to principles of decency tend to help people avoid some of the common pitfalls in life. There are alternative explanations but it is all fairly mysterious, and I know how you recoil from mystery so we can leave it at that.
