>> How do you mis-remember a scholarship offer than cannot exist?

I have a friend whose son was a student at Rhodes on a full ride. Vanderbilt came to him and said, "We want you to come here and play football for us." My friend emailed me and said, "Guess what? S_____ got a full ride football scholarship at Vandy, we met with the recruiters today! But he can't decide whether to stay at Rhodes or to go to Vandy."

He had no scholarship from Vandy. He had the goodwill of the Vandy recruiters.

I would say the circumstances here were practically identical.
