It was not "my" hunch, it was in his news briefing.

From last night, he wrote this...

....with shorts like Baan Co. (BAANF) , Microsoft (MSFT) and even DuPont (DD) and Kellog (K) off solidly, while Rambus (RMBS) tacked on a couple.

I do not pay that much attention, as I rarely take an interest in stock. Also, I get a newsletter from McMillan which analyses option activity in stocks. He is short MOT, for example, based on put activity, since it was ~61 a week or two ago.

So I just look at these things for ideas...if I have no interest at the time I forget about it almost immediately.

You should talk to someone at E-Trade. If they allow you to 'short' a stock there is absolutely no reason why you should not tbe able to put on a spread. Perhaps you were talking to an inexperienced broker. Ask for a compliance officer. Legging into a spread by buying and then selling the other side of it, particularly in a debit spread, poses no risk for E-Trade. If they won't do it they are just not a serious outfit....

E~You should not be having this trouble with E*Trade. They have a bldg. full of rookies in Sacremento, demand connection to trading supervisor in Palo Alto.

I haven't initiated any new bullspreads. Still have CPQ, ASND, USSB - fortunately out a couple more months.

One cyber-aquaintance placed this TBR deal Mon. morning, and is out and well already. Of course, he's full of same chemicals that Lisa is....

Bought TBR stock.
Sold Jan 105 calls.
Sold Jan 100 puts.

Stock goes up: Makes 1 1/2 on stock + call prem + put prem.

Stock goes down to 100 1/8: Cost of stock is reduced by both prems recd.

Stock goes below 100, he's put to at a nice discount.

He believes owning stock is fine since TBR is an 'essential' industry. In Brasil, you either have TBR, or better know how to use coconut telegraph and drums. Makes sense. You ready for this one?
