Hi Bill, I answered the issue of shorting option to Barbara. It's mostly about Volatility & time decay which is the speediest 2 weeks before expiration.

Long term options 3 to 4 months ahead move around 50% of stock price, and with to big spreads. Time decay is more anticipatory.
