If you go back into the history of Fulcrum, you will find a situation very similiar to the one the doc managment folks face. A few years back, the full text marketplace was pretty vibrant. Companies like Fulcrum, Verity and Excalibur were fighting it out for large deals and marketshare. But slowly the market started changing and companies were no longer satisfied with buying standalone tool sets. They required integrated apps...solutions. Over time, all the fulltext vendors have folded their products into other offerings at a fraction of the price they were selling the point solutions for...

It is possible that Microsoft and Oracle and the like, have every intention of folding doc management into their current offerings as well.
