So let's go in, take out their capital, liberate every city and stronghold they have taken, and give them all back to their original owners. I have not read something so naive and uninformed in quite some time. ISIS is an ideology, not a geography. The combatants who have concentrated in Syria and Iraq come from everywhere. The twisted notions they expouse are not contained to Syria and Iraq. If you go in and "liberate" every city there, ISIS would disperse among the population, kill soldiers by way of guerilla warfare and return when we leave....and this would go on practically forever. Have you learned nothing from the Iraq experience, or from why Obama decided, against his own goal, to leave troops in Afghanistan? Obama knows the grim reality and lousy choices he is faced with. He is trying to contain the spread of ISIS in Syria and Iraq by helping the local folks organize and fight their own fight. When he said that ISIS was contained he meant that they are not capturing anymore turf there , in fact they are losing ground to Kurds. Watch the interview. What he is aiming for is to have the local powers stand up and fight for themselves, by providing them the tools and motives to do so. Things have to progress to the point where the Kurds, Iraqis, Jordanians, Turks, Saudis etc...come to the conclusion that America will not do it for them anymore. That's the only way they will maintain what they win, not by us doing it for them and later by having to occupy their countries to keep from having them slip back into chaos. You are way off the mark here.... Al PS: that's not appeasement...that's thought and pragmatism....quit taking cheap shots steeped in ignorance.
