From your description it would seem heat from the power supply is put into the case. A power supplies components are not really sensitive to the diluted heat from the CPU. The CPU is far more sensitive to he air temp around it's heat sinks. The heat energy density dissipation if huge around the die of the CPU.

From your description new vs old and my 4 decades of experience with electronics I would never buy a new case. But I have a half dozen ATX tower cases around. Different sizes.
