The woman who has a PHD in psychology, but was raised in a conservative household and who holds unscientific prejudices against it. It was I against everyone. As usual. The things she was saying were anecdotal and just not true. She is the same one who was taken aback when I told her that we were like all other animals. As all religious people do, when confronted with facts and logic they twist and turn searching for defense. With regard to God, it was don't you believe in love. I of course asked what that had to do with anything. And that love probably evolved to hold the tribe together. Scientific research does show that humans cooperate better than chimpanzees, for example. And we debated some other stuff but it's not important to the conversation. And I digress. It was a friendly debate which started out with her telling my daughter, who asked her if she wanted more wine, yeah I don't want to lose this high. They were high school friends and are very close, and both as sweet and decent as apple pie. But my older daughter (a lawyer )has always been Miss goody two shoes, and her friend is Miss goody two shoes two. And I do have to say, I do have to do a certain amount of cajoling to get them to think about things that do not relate directly to their Ozzie and Harriet family life's. I must give them credit, they have organized their lives very well. Both have wonderful husbands, two beautiful kids, and do a wonderful job living that experience and raising those children. I can fault neither of them on anything. Nor their husbands for that matter. And all four of them are very hard workers and live very clean lives. If our society were filled with people like them would be just fine. All four are also very liberal. And my daughter said she did vote to legalize pot. Even though she doesn't touch it. Anyway, I couldn't resist when she said I don't want to lose this high. We did a lot of back-and-forth stuff, and I think I finally won the argument by pointing out that fetal alcohol syndrome is pandemic, but there is no fetal pot syndrome. And men drink and beat their wives, but men do not smoke and beat their wives. My son-in-law (who teaches physics), I think feeling he had to defend the woman to some degree jumped in with all these kids are always on pot. I said sure, but what are they actually on? Alcohol, meth, cocaine. Blaming pot, is like blaming a man who's drinking and smoking cigarettes on the cigarettes. And 1 in 10 people die from alcohol related deaths; and people drinking often scare kids as they get mean. And the ultimate irony was,we all spent the night sitting around the fire, and we all drank. And no one smoked any pot :)>.
