Look. They commonly call it CO2 poisoning. It is a big deal for spacecraft designers. Not to mention those dealing with large, enclosed spaces. There were some cases a couple of decades ago where some workers entered a leg of a offshore oil rig in storage near Port Arthur, Texas. They died from CO2 poisoning, as reported in the media.

CO2 is a biological waste product. They typically are also poisons to the creature that produced them. Which is why they are a waste product.
