I think he is emblematic of liberals, the liberal's liberal. They're all koanheads and all think like him, but are a little more self-conscious about expressing things they realize might be seen as silly.

And that means that most liberals nowadays wish and hope one of their kids turns out gay or trans or something. Most will never say that ... koan will .. heck, he's probably told his girls.
