The Europeans came out of the dark ages and were able to use the advanced weapons and disease against a continent that was tribal...much as they did in the Americas. I'm sure that if you took a european of the time and dropped them into the tribal life of a African or Native American they would have thought them quite stupid...but when Europe was in the dark ages after the fall of the roman empire it was a disaster....meanwhile there were thriving civilizations in the Americas and Africa...the wheel turns.
