Government could do a much better job. Accountability and transparency need to be BETTER than private corporations... OMG I have worked in utilities and the Insurance industry - corrupt crony capitalism, we would NEVER tolerate much of it in... government. The alternatives to a mixed system of government and private enterprise are worse. Its not an ideal, utopian world in the private sector either. Ask folks who were downstream from polluters, or we victims of deregulated uber-wealthy bankers who subsequently loved their initially virtually uncontrolled Bush bailouts we the middle class are still paying for.

Some kind person showed me, when I was young, how countries that had started out with high ideals had become paralyzed economically and dysfunctional politically over time, due to creeping graft and corruption. I never thought it could happen to America because of our ability to vote it out. I stand corrected; I don't see the will among voters who just snicker and call it 'politics as usual.' "Graft, a form of political corruption, is the unscrupulous use of a politician's authority for personal gain." At least I get to hang with people I like today and of course there is all that free food ... Happy Thanksgiving, one_less
