I'm familiar with the 95/96 cycle...

as well as the 93/94 cycle, and the sensitivity to changes in equipment orders...etc...

I'm not even concerned with whether they are losing money at the trough or not losing money. My focus is on the technical aspects of their charts, which is typically the best leading indicator of when rising prices are coming.

what I was cationing people on, is trying to pick the bottom of the trough, price-wise. I don't see the bottom yet...it simply is not in yet, and any attempts to pick the bottom will be met with dissappointment. There will be lower prices post January, I'm sure. May as well keep the money in interest bearing accounts in the meanwhile, unless you are adept at day trading small rallys.

I would never counsel people not to buy cyclical stocks of any flavor in their darkest hour...

the darkest hour is not yet upon them!
