Yiwu: I hope you too have a pleasant holiday season. I'm not sure about the interview part, but it is very common business practice to talk to an applicant that was referred by another employee, assuming that employee is a good one. <g> There are many things a resume' cannot tell you about a person. You are correct that many positions are not advertised. I believe the "socially correct" term is "networking". I call it "asking around." Interviewing strangers, trying to find a "good fit" can consume a lot of time of 2-3 people. It is an expensive way to hire. If you are a student, I would urge you to ask the professor of a class you did well in to write you a general letter of recommendation. Some will. ANYTHING like that will make you stand out, which is what it is all about. I have a habit of saying what I feel. It does not mean I am correct, and many times people disagree. That is fine. I come here to share views & ideas, and to learn. I have found most here on S.I. to be the same. I have had disagreements with people and most are kept on polite terms. I hope you continue to contribute to the board. It is always helpful to have someone who has been there as a citizen. When I first started investing in Hong Kong, I bought research from a man named Sam Lau who worked for a brokerage research firm in Hong Kong. Since I was interested in second line stocks, rather than Hang Seng issues, I felt it best to find a native who knew what was going on. How could a person in New York possibly give me an accurate analysis of a battery company in Hong Kong? Again, I thank you for the kind words. Please feel free to e-mail me anytime I may be of service. I would also be interested in hearing more about your home. My e-mail is rawhide@ezl.com Best Regards, Doug
