First of all, it is "Democratic Party" not "democrat party".

Second, it is most certainly true that one important wing of the Democratic Party was composed of Jim Crow segregationists, anti-Catholics and anti-Semites until the 1960s. Other important parts of the party were African Americans, Catholics and Jews. What a concept! It was not only a Big Tent, it was a Huge Tent.

The 60s was a watershed decade in more ways than one. One of those ways, though, was when the Republicans led by Richard Nixon decided to break the Solid South, using the Democratic push for civil rights as their opening, and embarked on the Southern Strategy. I realize that Republicans love to say that Lincoln was a Republican and KKK members were Democrats, and that was all true, but I guess it comes as a shock to you that many people know what is long past history and what is more current history and what is present. When Reagan gave his speech declaring his candidacy at Philadelphia Mississippi, every KKK member and segregationist knew what it signified, even if people like you didn't. The Southern Strategy was completed at that point, and the number of Dixiecrats who turned to the Republican Party exponentially increased.

Yeah, the Party of Lincoln doesn't much call themselves that anymore, and the Solid South flipped with the Southern Strategy. Southerners used to have no truck with Republicans, because, Lincoln, but then Johnson pushed through the CRA and VRA, and so the the old South let bygones be bygones with Honest Abe, as long as the GOP didn't talk about him anymore. Do you maybe want to give the "liberal fascism" lecture about Woodrow Wilson while you're at it?

What you say, is of course completely incorrect. The KKK is an offshoot of the Dixiecrat's who were conservatives; and after the 1964 Civil Rights Act change to be Republicans. The conservatives always try to pass that one off.

They like to show the 1964 Civil Rights Act was filled with Democrats against it, but they fail to mention that they are all southern Dixiecrat's. That's shameful. Just like claiming Lincoln because he was Republican and ignoring the fact that the Republican's were the Liberal party of the day. Lincoln in fact was a liberal. A solid liberal.

It is liberals versus conservatives, not Democrats versus Republicans because those parties have represented one or the other at least once in days past. In days past, the liberals were in the Northeast. During the Civil War the liberals were in the Northeast and they were called Republicans. The parties changed from liberal to conservative at the turn-of-the-century. And the Democrats in the South became Dixiecrat's then later became Republicans.

So cautious optimist is dead right, the KKK was in fact very right wing.

You're not trying to rewrite history are you?

You do realize that the KKK is a militant off shoot group from the democrat party and has nothing to do with the right wing. Matter of fact one of their primary goals was to combat the carpet baggers (republicans) coming down from the north in the fear that all blacks would join the GOP.

Next you'll be telling me that Hitler was a right winger....... Fascism being a purely leftist ideology.

so you came here and posted such stupid drivel as "the KKK is not a right wing conservative hate group"

that actually in your little pee brain you think TODAY's democratic party has anything to do with the democratic party of the past

it's amazing how conservatives such as yourself are totally ignorant of history, and just repeat the stupid lies that are fed to them

the Democratic party was at one time the right wing hate mongers such as yourself, it evolved over time

and then claiming Hitler was also not a right wing hate monger?

I mean, how stupid can one be??

And then, on top of your ridiculously stupid post, you whine and cry about being banned for your stupid troll post and then attack the moderator from here on your circle-jerk hate-fest boards

what a sad life you CON servatives lead
