Jay - The world has always had stuff going on and people tend to have a bias of always preparing for what happened in the recent past, rather than preparing for the future.

When one of my Nephews went to Switzerland for the summer, my brother didn't want him riding any trains in Europe, because of the AVE crash in Spain. I didn't know that until we came back from Europe - where my husband and I had spent the summer with a Eurail Pass riding ICE, TGV, and every other possible combination.

My little brother and his wife who have never been to Europe over-generalized one news event from into a phobia about all European trains. His fear of the world is probably why he's never left the United States.

You can't let isolated events affect your view of the world. Percy didn't steer clear of world events. Use that as your guide.
