Ditto to you and yours. I have just been "preparing" to go shopping on the KLSE, first board only for now. There seems to be a lot of value in a couple of these companies. Trouble is doing the DD is tough here and I'm not real comfortable with the accounting standards.

As for impinging on the thread, I think it might be valuable for others to overview some local discussion as long as we didn't dominate the thread. Besides we are probably the only two on the thread awake at this time ;-) (no harm no foul folks!)

Two intersting headlines in today's New Straights Times for the others reading;
COUNTRY'S LARGE EXPORT BASE 'WILL CUSHION DOWNTURN' a recap of the Standard and Poors release. some exerpts
... infrastructure..superior to neighbors..should also underpin continued inflows of foreign direct investment...

..S&P said Malaysia's investment-grade ratings continue to reflect a sound external financial and liquidity position....

There is net liquid financial assets and general gov't debt is practically nil...

..also commended the economic stabilisation and reform package announced on Dec 5 as an important step....

BANK: FORIEGN PERCEPTIONS IGNORE MALAYSIA'S STRENGTHS

International investment banker Dresdner Kleinwort Benson, saying negativity on Malaysia i soverdone, pointed out that foreign perceptions see weaknesses not strenths, and these misconceptions had caused stocks, markets and currencies to overshoot this year.
Article goes on about only the highest end of the real estate market is over-built and the banks have seen it coming and are prepared somewhat.

...Commenting on Malaysia's leadership..."Contrary to perceptions of detachment from reality, Malaysia, under Datuk Seri Dr. Mahathir Mohamad has shown an ability to take tough decisions and deal surgically with problems"...

...Touching on perceptions, the investment bank said non-Malaysian investors also have to learn not to take Malaysian statement literally or at face value...
More generally upbeat comments followed.

happy holidays to all. I will be joining Stitch for some serious bargain hunting over the Chinese New Year in Thailand. Today its off to Kuantan for 4 days of beach time.(Sorry to those in N.E. US where you just got 9 inches of the white stuff ;-))

To All;
Its midday on Christmas Eve here in K.L. and I am off to run some last minute errands. Upon returning my wife and I will start cooking. (Have already baked about 6 dozen cookies.) Before I left the thread for the holiday I just wanted to wish you all the Very
Best Christmas and a Prosperous New Year (to us all I hope).
Best,
Stitch
