After Muslim Terror Attack, NYC Springs Into Action to Protect Muslims

"We are a stronger city because of the contributions of the Muslim community"
December 6, 2015
Daniel Greenfield

Who can forget the time when New York City Mayor Fiorella LaGuardia responded to the Holocaust by ordering the NYPD to protect Nazi rallies. But New York City's current mayor, when he isn't sleeping on the job, is responding to Muslim terror attacks by... vowing to protect Muslims.

[ Hey, at least he didn't attack Christians, did he? ]

Mayor de Blasio told more than 200 people at a Queens mosque Friday night that Muslims have the same rights as all New Yorkers and vowed the city would protect them from hate crimes by bigots seeking scapegoats for the recent terror attacks in California and Paris.

He also said he considers “the Muslim community in New York City an ally in the fight against terrorism,” adding “when acts of terror occur, all communities suffer.”

The communities that are targeted by Muslim terrorists suffer more. Muslim terrorists have repeatedly targeted synagogues in New York. So the NYPD will be beefing up mosque security.

The city has increased its presence in Muslim neighborhoods, sending staffers to visit mosques and meet with imams and worshippers. Police officials have briefed community leaders on new counterterrorism procedures. Other city officials have urged Muslims to report any hate crimes, the number of which is sharply lower in New York in 2015 than at this time a year ago.

Have they solved the Great Staten Island Bacon Hate Crime Yet? I recall that one consumed a whole lot of NYPD resources. Sure someone may get stabbed or blown up in the meantime, but we've got to keep an eye out on that bacon menace.

Organizers of the end-of-Ramadan ceremony found several strips of bacon strewn on John D'Amato Field at about 8 a.m. Sunday and contacted the NYPD.

One person who saw the bacon said it was found deep into the athletic field, and at least 50 feet or 60 feet away from any roadway, and a photo of the bacon shows it close to the painted lines of the soccer field.

Dr. Sadeia added, "On behalf of the Muslim American Society and the Muslim community on Staten Island, I would like to thank our elected officials who stand up for constitutional rights, and those who made the safety of our community a priority," referring to several elected officials who denounced the act on Monday.

Except that turned out to be somebody trying to feed the birds.

"I had put the bacon there. It was going bad in my trunk and I put it out for the scavengers like the opossums and the raccoons and sea gulls, and I did not intend for that to cause anybody any problems.

"It was not any (inaudible) anti-Muslim act, and I did not want to offend anybody in way. Thank you and have a good day."

But we're going to stay focused on what matters. The bacon threat. Not the terror threat.

In a speech Friday evening at an Islamic community center, Mayor Bill de Blasio said the city would deepen its relationship with the 800,000 Muslim New Yorkers and vowed dogged investigations into any hate crimes.

"We are a stronger city because of the contributions of the Muslim community," he said.
