The NC is going to be massive, period end of discussion.

Well, I agree with that. Just taking away 5% of the current PC market would be massive by anyone's definition. But I think it is hard to predict how much of the PC market it is going to steal.

Damn, in fact, after re-reading your post, I think I agree with about everything in it!! Rod, you must be coming around, after all.... (oh, well, except I'm not all that convinced Java is going replace Windows API, as it will more likely be in addition to Windows API).

Rod,

Keep one thing in the mind with all your enthusiasm on Java: reality! I have been doing more work in it and I like it very much, but there are a couple of things for you to keep in mind:

1) Corporations move very slowly (COBOL is still the most widely used business language). The Year 2000 problem is a good example of corporate speed.

2) Microsoft hasn't been derailed yet. I am still betting that Microsoft will make C++ / Java indistinguishable and it will migrate its huge developer pool to its flavor of Java.

3) Sun still controls Java... I look at it potentially becoming another Microsoft IF Java gets any large market penetration.

Happy Holidays,

Shane
