John, I do understand the differences, and realize that slot one is made for only one mate, Intels products(or those that license). My comments are to the proprietary nature, as microchannel also required a license, being a proprietary bus. The licensing took over a year of legal wrangling, with patent crosses, and fees on the entire system sale, assignment of numbers for cards etc, before you could make it. It was dead before it shipped. I remember buying 10,000 microchannel SCSI cards for gold scrap for 25 cents each about 3 years ago. Each one cost adaptec a fortune to make and all they got was 25 cents??
