That decision that this refers to the archangel Michael is made to avoid accepting the obvious:

Daniel 7: 13 “In my vision at night I looked, and there before me was one like a son of man,[ a] coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was led into his presence. 14 He was given authority, glory and sovereign power; all nations and peoples of every language worshiped him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and his kingdom is one that will never be destroyed.

"virtually all Christians were Jews for a very long time."

No; they ceased to be Jewish when they became Christian. We did that dance.

Heh, this from a guy raised in sects that are covert Lutherans, just without a cross on the wall.

Ignatius of Antioch (d108)and John Chrysostom also of Antioch (d407) both complained about numerous Jewish Christians in Antioch who would attend synagogues on the Sabbath and churches on the next day. I'm sure the rabbinate didn't like this state of affairs either, but it apparently went on for at least 300 years.

In Dura-Europos, there is a well preserved synagogue that has been excavated. Literally across the street from it was church. Apparently over the course of many years, the church was expanded till it was larger than the synagogue. The synagogue and church co-existed in the same part of the city for a very long time. The cities of the ancient ME had ethnic neighborhoods. Most of the churches began in the Jewish neighborhoods. The leadership of both the Christians and Jews have buried this history.
