Damages the entire industry, that sort of thing, just reinforces the bad name that mining has legitimately earned over the ages ... populations at large don't bother distinguishing between safe operations and unsafe, between harmful and net-net beneficial, it's all an evil scarey business ... over all known LatAm history it actually averages out as exactly that - from the time of the incas, and possibly before, we don't know, what mining meant was that the ruling powers enslaved the people of any place they found resources they wanted, worked them and their children to death, devastated their lands, and sucked all wealth off to their power centres for their own fleeting glorification ... not so long ago now, since it was distinctly 'red in tooth and claw'
