The majority used to believe the sun revolved around the Earth...being in the majority...
That theory was the religious dogma of the day, not backed by scientific facts. The church was embracing Aristotelian geocentric model, not the scientists. The scientists were using observation to disprove that model. The Catholic church tried to shut them down. This is what the neocons and the GOP tried to do with the Climate science. What you're also saying by using that analogy, is that we can't trust basic temperature measurement and we haven't proven greenhouse theory. That's pure nonsense. Greenhouse theory is a fact and the temperature measurements are trustworthy. The science is solid and we must stop the politicians from shutting it down.
