Of course you can - many people hunt with AR's today. And with one lower you can swap the upper for many different calibers. Not to mention it's an excellent gun for home defense or the founders worry that created the 2nd amendment in the first place.

I have three ar's setup just for hunting - in calibers 5.56/.223, 300 blackout and 6.8 spc.
